Luis F. Mijangos Castellanos was born in Salinacruz, Oaxaca Mexico, in 1953. The seventh of eight children, he spent his childhood in Comitan, a small town in the mexican state of Chiapas that he left in 1968 in order to continue his education. In 1975 he received a degree in Architecture from Anahuac University in Mexico City. As an Architect, Mijangos designed Hospitals, Commercial and Cultural Centers and private Residences throughout his country for more than fifteen years.

He got involved with watercolor painting years after graduation when Architect Vicente Mendiola Q. (1900-1986) an old faculty teacher, invited him to join his group of friends who got together every Sunday, to paint watercolors in the old Colonial Neighborhoods of Mexico City. In 1988, following a six months trip throughout Europe, he turned his full attention to the visual arts and painting. In addition to being a watercolorist, Mijangos is at home with oils, drawing and printmaking.

Following his marriage in 1994, he moved to the U. S. A. He lives in New York City with his wife Lynne and their dog Amelie.
